The Project ‘Portal Through the Centuries: Bohuslav Carols’ officially started this Sunday, 23 October 2022!
The team members have already started travelling around the Bohuslav region (or Bohuslavshchyna). They collected folklore, traditions and memories in Dybyntsi and Rozkopantsi. They recorded many stories and life experiences, as well as unique songs.
In Dybyntsi, for instance, elderly people survived the Holodomor or grew up in the difficult times of post-war reconstruction. They no longer remember carols or songs, but they do remember hunger, unusual dishes made from flowers, leaves and herbs, and hard work on the collective farm – days of work with meagre remuneration.
In Rozkopantsi, the younger ladies, members of the Rozkopanchanochka singing group, have sung songs and even a few carols that are specific to Bohuslavshchyna. We have recorded the words and motifs, and we will share them with you very soon on the page of the ‘Around Us. UA’ NGO.
Please note: We are looking for people who have collected and are collecting songs, carols, local traditions, etc. We invite you to share your findings so that we can share them with a wider audience. If you have elderly relatives or friends who can share their memories of Christmas celebrations, we would be grateful for an invitation and assistance in organising the expedition.
