Today we would like to tell you more about the historical and cultural charity event “Portal through the Centuries: Bohuslav Carols (Koliada)”.
As part of the project, we aim to revive the local tradition of celebrating koliada (a cycle of Christmas and New Year festivities). We plan to research, develop, recreate, and promote local Christmas and New Year traditions.
What is the main purpose? In Bohuslav city and the villages of the community, as in many other places in Ukraine, there is still a low level of interest among the local population in historical and cultural heritage. This is particularly true for the preservation of local traditions, which are currently under-researched.
The main reason for the current situation was the anti-Ukrainian position of the soviet authorities and, as a result, the aggressive propaganda activities of the modern russian federation against the preservation of Ukrainian national memory.
Today, in the context of armed and informational confrontation with russian aggression, it is crucial to research, preserve and promote cultural heritage, reawaken the natural interest of Ukrainians in researching and recreating their traditions, preserving family memory, promoting identification as Ukrainians, and improving the quality of cultural leisure for community members and internally displaced persons. Such events also contribute to the adaptation of internally displaced persons. And after all, if not during the winter celebrations, when do you start making people fall in love with Ukrainian traditions?
This project is a pilot project for the Centre for the Study of Local History, Folklore and Ethnography, created in cooperation with the “Around Us. UA” NGO and the Museum of the History of Bohuslav Region. The project will continue the cycle of historical and cultural events of the Museum of the History of Bohuslav Region and the Bohuslav Volunteer Headquarters.
