We warmly invite you to the presentation of the banner exhibition “Brazhnyky – Masters of Ukrainian Clothing” to be held on 6 April in the library of the Bohuslav House of Culture.
Over the decades of captivity in the USSR, Ukrainian diaspora activists pursued an active social and cultural life abroad. Dozens of choral, dance, and theatre groups are known to have presented the world with the real Ukraine, an alternative to the one the Kremlin allowed to be shown. All of these groups were impressed not only with the quality of their artistic performance but also with the magnificent Ukrainian folk costumes that were most often ordered from Oleksandra and Fedir Brazhnyk (Brazhnyky family).
Fedir and Oleksandra Brazhnyk, who celebrated the beauty of Ukrainian folk costumes around the world, are from Medvyn. For 40 years, they not only produced costumes and theatre sets in their workshop in New York but also engaged in the Ukrainian national cause, revealing to the world the truth about the russian occupation of Ukraine. Once they even deceived the KGB and brought Ivan Dubynets’s book about the Medvyn uprising to Ukraine.
Their incredible story deserves to be heard, so we have implemented it in our exhibition and brochure and would like to present it to the audience. The presentation will be attended by the initiators of the exhibition, researchers and the closest relatives of Fedir Brazhnyk. And, like in the good old days, our Ukrainian bandura will sound.
The presentation of the exhibition and brochure will take place in Bohuslav on Saturday 6 April. Please direct message us or give us a call at 0673565279 regarding the time of the event.
Organised by “Around Us. UA” NGO, the “Medvyn. Uprising” educational initiative, Bohuslav Volunteer Headquarters with the support of the “Partnership for a Strong Ukraine” Foundation.
