On Saturday, 6 April, on the 105th anniversary of the Medvyn anti-bolshevik uprising, the Bohuslav Public Library hosted a presentation of the brochure “Brazhnyky – Masters of Ukrainian Clothing”. The guests who attended the presentation were told about the legendary Ukrainian costume designers by researcher Maryna Hohulia and project coordinator of the “Around Us. UA” NGO Victoriia Oliynyk.
“For about 40 years, Fedir and Oleksandra sewed costumes for the best Ukrainian emigrant artistic groups in New York. They were not only engaged in cultural diplomacy, but also, together with their fellow compatriot from Medvyn Ivan Dubynets, spread the truth about the life of Ukrainians in the USSR and the crimes of the Kremlin: the Red and Great Terror, the Holodomor, and deportations. The creative and pro-Ukrainian environment both where they were formed in their native Medvyn, and the environment in which they lived in New York, was that of participants in the Ukrainian liberation movement, artists, and public and political figures,” Maryna Hohulia noted.
We would like to remind you that you can get more information about the Brazhnyky family in our publications “Medvyn Uprising in Facts, Figures, and Memories” and “Brazhnyky – Masters of Ukrainian Clothing”, which are available in the Library of Bohuslav city.
