On 19 October 2023, we paid a visit to the Smartika private primary school in Kyiv city. This school has a great tradition of ending the school quarter with a charity fair. This time, representatives of the “Around Us.UA” NGO also took part in the fair. Traditional Ukrainian costumes of the Kyiv region (Kyivshchyna), recreated from old samples and photographs, as well as a collection of jewellery and wax wreaths fascinated the young students and teachers. They were excited to try on the costumes and jewellery, sell and buy crafts made by the school families, take part in games and competitions, and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a real traditional Ukrainian fair.
“Dressing in historical clothes gives you a special feeling. It feels like you become a little bit different, you unite with your ancestors, look like they looked, feel what they felt, and rejoice at how beautiful it is. And once again, you realise that we, Ukrainians, have something to be proud of, because we have been able to create unique beauty since ancient times,” they share their impressions on the school’s webpage.
We are happy to contribute to a good cause! The lovely little pumpkins from Turkey, grown in Bohuslavshchyna, were sold out in favour of the fundraising for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
