At the weekend, we went on an expedition to Medvyn, which is now the administrative centre of the territorial community and for a long time belonged to the Bohuslav district. There we recorded folklore from Liubov Fesenko, a soloist of the vocal ensemble Dzherelo.
Liubov was born in Medvyn, worked as a teacher in Kydanivka village for a significant part of her life, and was even the director of the local school. She learned folk songs and customs from her parents (her father played the harmonica well, and her mother, who came from Halychyna, knew plenty of ancient customs and rituals), as well as from the elderly people in Kydanivka. She performed for us the songs that were sung in her family, and also shared a whole arsenal of chants that were sung during a traditional Ukrainian wedding, including when she was getting married or was a bridesmaid. We would like to invite you to listen to the wedding songs performed by Liubov in our video report.
