While working on developing the tourism potential of the Bohuslav region, the main task of the NGO “Around Us. UA” is to create a visitor information centre in the city of Bohuslav. In order to launch the general concept of the centre’s brand book, a member of the organisation, travel blogger and guide Yevhen Puzatko surveyed residents and tourists on the question “What is Bohuslav associated with?”. The survey was conducted on Facebook through an open poll. More than 150 responses were received.
The top three associations were the Ros River (mentioned by 65% of respondents), the Shumky (a dam in the city centre), granite outcrops (locally known as “Yama” or “Pit”), and stone boulders. No wonder, since the spectacular landscape created by all these elements is the main “highlight” of Bohuslav. The team was aware of this before, however, it was important for us to confirm it through this survey.
About 25% of the respondents listed the “Yama” as the top symbol of Bohuslav, and about the same number of people listed the monument to Marusia Bohuslavka as the main symbol of the city.
The historicity of our area was pointed out by about 15% of respondents. Quite a few people mentioned cultural figures who lived or studied in the Bohuslav region. Among the crafts associated with the Bohuslav region was weaving.
Respondents also mentioned the Holy Trinity Church, St Nicholas Monastery, Kamianytsia (1726), bridges, and Lobunka Mountain. Other interesting common associations include the market, Jewish buildings in the historic part of the city, delicious lard (white bacon), and marshmallows. Many people also highlighted emotional associations: peace and cosiness.
The brand book of the visitor information centre has already been developed and will be presented at the opening.
