“Oh, come on, come on, twine the green Shum”. It’s time to call for spring, sing spring songs, twine the Shum, and welcome the birds…
We invite you to attend an event about Ukrainian folk traditions “We Are Calling for Spring, We Are Twining the Shum” on 12 March at 3 pm.
This is a unique opportunity to hear Yulia Bohuslavka singing in her native land. The talented singer Sovershenna Yulia is from our glorious city of Bohuslav and is known in Ukraine and abroad. She is a member of the bands “Materia” and “Folknery”, and also sang in the band “Rozhanytsia”. Many people know Yulia by her stage name of ‘Boguslavka’. She is a researcher of Ukrainian folklore who has conducted many expeditions across Ukraine in search of ancient authentic songs and traditions. Today, Yulia is a volunteer and coordinator of the NGO Nasha-Vsyudy, which helps our defenders, the Ukrainian military.
Programme of the event:
- we will talk about the Ukrainian traditions of the springtime celebrations;
- we will find out about the way our ancestors celebrated spring, listen to authentic ‘vesnyanky’ – the songs that call for spring – performed by ‘Boguslavka’;
- we will twine the Shum and sing along at the singer’s workshop;
- all the guests of the event will receive a fairing – a delicious ritual spring pastry in the form of a lark.
The organisers of the event: Bohuslav Volunteer Headquarters together with the prominent folk singer Yulia Sovershenna “Boguslavka”, coordinator of the NGO Nasha-Vsyudy. The event is supported by the “Around Us. UA” NGO.
We are looking forward to seeing you on 12 March at 3 pm in the event hall of the Camelot cafe (40 Mykolayivska St., Bohuslav city).
