Presentation of the Exhibition “Brazhnyky – Masters of Ukrainian Clothing” at the Myronivka Museum of Local Lore

On 20 December 2023, the Myronivka Museum of Local Lore hosted a presentation of the exhibition and brochure “Brazhnyky – Masters of Ukrainian Clothing”.

The exhibition is dedicated to the prominent figures of the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States – the couple Fedir and Oleksandra Brazhnyk. For forty years, the couple, originally from Medvyn, created costumes for the most famous Ukrainian emigrant dance, choral, and theatre companies as well as movies.

Maryna Hohulia is the curator of the exhibition, co-founder of the “Medvyn. Uprising” educational initiative, representative of the “Around Us. UA” NGO, delivered to the audience some interesting facts about the legendary costume designers and their workshop in New York. And Viktoriia Oliynyk, project manager of the “Ukrainian Life. Folk Calendar of Bohuslavshchyna” project, under which the exhibition was organised, and a representative of the “Around Us. UA” NGO presented traditional Ukrainian maiden clothes and a collection of paraffin wreaths recreated from the samples of old clothes of the  “Around Us. UA” NGO.

The opening was also attended by literary critic Serhiy Halchenko and the director of the Myronivka Museum of Local Lore Inna Savsiuk.

This time, the exhibition featured not only photographs of the couple, but also footage of Fedir Brazhnyk in the Marusya film.

All participants of the exhibition received a brochure about the Brazhnyk family as a gift.

The exhibition will be on display at the Myronivka Museum of Local Lore until January 2024.

The exhibition was organised by the “Around Us. UA” NGO, the “Medvyn. Uprising” educational initiative, Bohuslav Volunteer Headquarters with the support of the Partnership for a Strong Ukraine Foundation.
