“It’s absolutely stunning!” – everyone comments on our book “Folk Calendar of Bohuslavshchyna”, which has recently been released and presented on 10 February 2024 during the “Economy Grows Through Culture” course.
The book was written by folklorist Olena Chebaniuk and historian Oksana Humeniuk, participants of expeditions to the Bohuslav region, and designed by Oleksandra Fedoryshyna.
The book is focused on the calendar traditions of the Bohuslavshchyna in the Kyiv region, on their local peculiarities, distinctive features of rituals and folklore.
This edition includes materials from our historical and ethnographic expeditions and archives. You will also find there a questionnaire that can be used to record stories, memories, folklore and ethnological material, as well as samples of local clothing from the collections of relevant institutions and private collections.
The publication also contains information about the local project “Ukrainian Life. Folk Calendar of Bohuslavshchyna” with a highlight on the main stages of its implementation. This project is an excellent example of successful activities in the field of research and promotion of traditional culture, and therefore such experience can be used in the preparation and planning of similar projects in small communities throughout Ukraine and beyond.
The participants of the three-day course “Economy through Culture” received this wonderful book as a gift.
